The end of a year is a perfect time for reflection. Even the beginning of a new year is not too late to reflect. Reflection is important and should be done often…in fact, it should be done throughout the year…even daily, weekly, and/or monthly.
At this time of the year, we need to reflect on where we have been, what God has done for us, and what God is doing in us and through us.
When we reflect on where we have come from, we can recognize that we may not be where we want to be or where we should be. However, thank God, we are not where we used to be.
When we reflect on what God has done for us, we need to remember our many blessings throughout the year. As the song says, count your blessings and name them one by one. We also need to consider how the Lord has protected us from dangers seen and unseen over the year. In addition, we need to recognize that the Lord has held us close through many challenges: the loss of a loved one, sickness, financial hardship, job issues, the list goes on and on. However, through it all, we can say, “We are still here! We made it through another year.
Finally, we need to reflect on what God is doing IN us and THROUGH us. Look at the areas where God has grown us through the year. Make note of the good habits that have been formed and the bad habits that have been broken.
Then, we need to purpose in our hearts to let the Lord truly be the head of our lives and to use us to encourage, uplift, or minister to those within our circle of influence.
Finally, if we are happy with what we have discovered at the end of our time of reflection, then thank and praise God.
However, if we are NOT happy with what we discover from our time of reflection…don’t be discouraged. Ask God for forgiveness and pray that God will show you the path he has for you in the New Year. God Bless and Happy New Year!!
