Spiritual PPE- “Perfect Peace Equipment”- Part 1

PPE- (Personal Protective Equipment)– Refers to protective clothing such as face shields, gloves, face masks OR respirators, and goggles that protects essential workers from illness.  It is for their health and safety.

But what about protection for our minds and hearts?

When we become overwhelmed by the challenges and pressures of life, we sometimes desire to escape reality.  Many people escape reality by playing games, watching TV, and eating.

What if that desire was a hint or a signal that we are no longer focused on Jesus?  Do you remember, in Matthew 14:22-33, when Peter was walking on the water?  As long as he kept his eyes…his focus on Jesus, he was able to walk on the water; but, as soon as he focused his attention on the wind and waves he began to sink.

What if, through the desire to escape reality, we were being prompted to turn our gaze back to Jesus, to tune in to the spiritual realm of our heavenly father?

Prerequisites:

We must be in right standing with God if we want to truly experience His peace.  In other words, we can not be willfully disobedient and participate in premeditated sins adding to it that “the Lord knows my heart” or “I’ll pray for forgiveness later.”

No, we have to live a life consistent with the Word that we know, and we have to SEEK to please God in our everyday lives.  He is ALWAYS listening.  He is ALWAYS there, even when we decide to ignore that fact or tune it out.  When we truly come to a place of integrity in our spiritual life, that fact alone (God’s Omnipresence) will bring comfort, peace, and joy to our hearts.  We WANT Him to ALWAYS be there FOR us and WITH us.

Ok.  So, our scripture of focus is:

Is. 26:3– Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

God’s promise is to keep us in PERFECT PEACE!  Doesn’t that sound wonderful?  However, this promise is conditional.  There’s ONE thing that we need to do.  Our part is to keep our minds on Jesus and the reason WHY we are focusing on Jesus, is because we TRUST Him to take care of us.

We can not possibly keep our minds on Jesus, if we are constantly filling up on the depressing news, politics, TV, and what everybody else has to say… Those things will lead your mind somewhere else.  Even being full of ourselves, thinking only of our self will distract our minds and keep us from being GOD-focused.  You can’t serve two masters.  God should not be a SIDE NOTE…he should be the CENTER of our lives!  We should not be the center of attention…GOD should be the center of our attention.

Prov. 3:6

Trust in the Lord with ALL thine heart; and lean NOT unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

We can’t act like we know everything already.  We need to lean on JESUS…and not on our OWN understanding.  That happens when we acknowledge God FIRST in all things.  We ask for HIS input, HIS direction, HIS wisdom, and HIS guidance instead of just making all the decisions and choices based on OUR thoughts and feelings.  When we do THAT, then he has promised to direct our path.  Knowing that we DON’T KNOW is the first step to trusting God.  Only GOD is Omniscient…knowing everything from the beginning to the end and knowing the end from the beginning.  He is our Creator!  We can trust HIM!

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Peace is a GIFT that GOD has given to us.  He left it with us, so that we would not be worried and afraid.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God hath NOT given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

We must know that FEAR is from the enemy and NOT from our Heavenly Father.  So, we do NOT have to accept it! We can accept the gift of peace from our loving Father who KNEW that we would need it in these last and evil days.

Think about little children or well taken care of and loved pets.  They live and operate CAREFREE.  They have NO WORRIES…not a care in the world, because they depend on their parents and caregivers to take care of them.

We, too, should have the assurance that our heavenly father will supply ALL of our need according to his riches in glory. Phil. 4:19

And when kids DO ask about something that is a parent responsibility, a loving, responsible parent will assure them, “That’s not for YOU to worry about.  You don’t have to worry about that AT ALL.”

1 Pet. 5:7 reminds us to “Cast your cares upon HIM, because HE cares for you.”

We are to do, not just what we CAN do but, what GOD tells us to do and let him handle the rest.  When we are obedient, God will take care of what we can’t do for ourselves.  We just have to learn to “hand it over.”  Don’t keep holding on to it!  You know that you can’t do anything WITH IT anyway!

Matt. 6:34- Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Guess what?  God has given us permission…instruction…let’s even call it an “order”…to keep a ONE track mind in this life.  He does NOT want us “multitasking” our life.
He wants us to focus on TODAY.  After all, God is the “I AM,” not the “I WAS” or the “I WILL BE.”  God is here with us in the PRESENT.  So, we need to stay PRESENT with Him.

Don’t trail behind in the disappointment of yesterday and don’t get ahead of him worrying about tomorrow.  Today has enough trouble of it’s own.
