Guard the Avenues of Your Soul- Part 2

A pretty familiar proverb to most people is “Curiosity killed the cat.”  This saying serves as a warning against investigating WITHOUT wisdom and proper caution.  Of course, curiosity certainly has its place when it comes to growth and understanding.  On the other hand, when it is without caution or for the wrong reason, it can also be very DANGEROUS and DAMAGING.

In fact, HUMANITY was sent on a downward spiral in ONE moment of curiosity.  If we go back to the garden of Eden, Eve was curious enough to go near the very tree that God told Adam and her NOT to touch or eat from.  How many times have we caught ourselves being curious about something that we KNOW UP FRONT is NOT wholesome or good for us?

You have to be careful in these cases because if you get TOO CLOSE to some things, you can easily be SNATCHED in!  This is what happened to Eve.  She was curious, first of all, and thought that it was a harmless curiosity.  However, SHE did not realize that Satan was already waiting for her arrival and that her demise was only moments away.  Being a perfectly sinless and innocent being in a perfect and beautiful garden was about to be a thing of the past

Eve didn’t even know who Satan was, but her UNWHOLESOME curiosity created the PERFECT opportunity for her to encounter him.  However, Satan knew who Eve was and her curiosity was JUST the thing that he needed to implement his evil plan of destruction.

Eve COULD NOT SEE the danger she was walking into.  She COULD NOT SEE that she was about to END humanity and LIFE as she knew it.  You see, she was in a situation where her current life was lovely, but her curiosity caused her to completely change the course of history for ALL TIME

In today’s world, there are so many things out there vying to pique our interest.

Anything your mind can THINK of, can be found ON THE INTERNET.  The flip side, is that even things that you are NOT thinking about, can pop up at ANY TIME.

THIS IS A TRICK OF THE ENEMY!!

This is the way that things get planted purposely, so that you will stumble across it.  The danger lies, then, in allowing yourself to become TOO CURIOUS

There are many things that are unclear to us. Things that we don’t really know or understand, but we already KNOW that it is NOT ANYTHING GOOD about it.  In fact, you can know up front that it is STRAIGHT EVIL!

We have to really pray for the strength not to succumb to the P-U-L-L of curiosity for our SOUL’S sake.  We need to pray this for ourselves, our children, and our loved ones as well.

We may know about the dangers of curiosity, but our children sometimes are NAIVELY taken in by DECEPTION.

However, we must not be OVERCONFIDENT as adults.  After all, Satan has been deceiving children and adults alike for EONS.  None of us has been living even close to THAT long.  Therefore, we must HUMBLY recognize that, WE ARE NOT EXEMPT from deception.  Eve is our greatest example of this fact.

The Bible says that we are drawn away and caught by our own desires and enticed. James 1:14  There are cases where we are drawn to something because we are interested in SOME aspect of it.  We are desiring to find out FOR OURSELVES what something is about and to experience it ourselves.  That spark of desire comes from WITHIN.  For example, one person may see a box of cigarettes and a lighter in an empty room and be tempted to smoke.  Another person could be surrounded by cigarettes and lighters and the thought to smoke would N-E-V-E-R cross their minds.

The danger, now, is that you DO NOT have be drawn to participate in the thing that you are curious about.  You can just be curious to learn more information about how something works or what something is all about.  We call that being nosey.  We can just be nosey…not even interested in doing anything WRONG or SINFUL…just nosey.  In our defense, we would say, “I’m just CURIOUS!” Yet that nosiness can put us in the situation where the devil has the opportunity to GRAB HOLD of our mental faculties through the MANY tricks and schemes that are OUT THERE.

We need be AWARE of the TV shows, videos, music, and information that we consume.  What is it doing TO us?  What effect does it have ON us?  God gave us our senses to experience the world that HE created, but if we use them to EXPLORE the various aspects of SIN, we can find ourselves caught in a DANGEROUS WEB…and oh, what a tangled web we can weave!

We should allow our curiosity to help us develop a CLOSER relationship with the LORD.  For example, we should be CURIOUS about how FAITH works, so that we TEST it; because, God tells us to TRY Him and KNOW him…put Him to the TEST.  Try His WILL and see if it won’t work.  Try His WAY and see if it won’t work. Malachi 3:10-12

“O taste and see that the Lord is good.”  Ps. 34:8

“Be still and know that I am God.” Ps. 46:10

“For all the promises of God IN HIM are yea, and IN HIM Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” 2 Cor. 1:20

These are the things that we are supposed to be CURIOUS about.  These are the things that we are supposed to TRY.  These are the things that we should WANT to find out HOW they work.  We have been ENCOURAGED and given PERMISSION by, OUR FATHER, God to EXPLORE His WORD, His WILL, and His PROMISES.  These are SAFE realms of CURIOUSITY that will lead to BLESSINGS and not CURSES.  It can lead to FREEDOM and not BONDAGE.  We need to be VERY INTENTIONAL and CAUTIOUS about our curiosity.
