It is quite apparent to everyone, now, that this health crisis doesn’t care about your family name, your money, your education, or your status. Everyone in the ENTIRE world is dealing with the same event at the same time. Strangely enough, it brings more clarity to the scripture referring to the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ that says, “Look, he is coming with the clouds,” and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”… Rev. 1:7 Who would have thought that ALL eyes, all over the world, would be experiencing the exact same thing simultaneously, before then? This is a current glimpse how that AWESOME and MAGNIFICENT event will command the attention of the WHOLE WORLD. For those of us who love the LORD, that day will be a GLORIOUS one!
Here’s what I have noticed so far:
- During this time of crisis, what’s IMPORTANT is becoming clearer and clearer by the day. For example, we must all reassess what we spend money on right now. Necessities are all that matter. It is quite clear that now is not the time to just throw money away on knick knacks and frivolous things. Everyone wants to make sure they have food, clothing, and shelter. Everyone is focused on their health and safety. These are the BASICS for human life.
- When you are in a crisis, you begin to recognize whether what you have been addicted to and relying on every day is bringing you comfort and peace or not. Have you noticed that when you are going through a storm, those silly pastimes and other forms of entertainment just don’t seem desirable? Partying and goofing off just doesn’t “cut it.” These things just don’t “hit the spot” of satisfaction. Do you know why? It is because it NEVER held any beneficial substance in the first place. At their core, they are void and empty…simply distractions from what we really need and what REALLY matters. What we need is a closer relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What we need is to spend more time in the Word of God and in prayer, so that we can listen to God’s voice and receive the peace, wisdom, and guidance that we so desperately need in this evil world.
The Word of God says, “Thou wilt keep him in PERFECT peace, whose mind is STAYED on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Is. 26:3
This is a promise that we really need to hold on to. So, if you lack peace, refocus your attention.
- In times of crisis, we need to keep our minds stayed on Jesus? Why? Because if we don’t, we will certainly be overtaken with fear which is not of God. If fear is allowed to overtake us, we could then lose our minds, lose our sense of direction, and even be at risk of losing our salvation.
The Word of God says, “PEACE I leave with you; my PEACE I GIVE YOU. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and DO NOT be afraid.” John 14:27 (NIV)
So, don’t be caught up in the news all day long, if it is invoking paralyzing fear within your heart. Stay on your knees and in the Word asking God for the peace that passeth ALL understanding, which only he can give. Stay informed, yes, but do not let the information overload overtake you and cause you to take on a spirit of fear.
“For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Tim 1:7
Now, more than ever, we need to be in tune with the frequency of heaven, so that we will be able to receive wisdom from above and operate with a sound mind. BREATHE! Wherever you are right now, if you are a child of God, YOU ARE OK!
So, how can we take the SOUR LEMONS of this situation and turn them into SWEET LEMONADE? What can we do now that we have all of this time on our hands? What can we do, as we are staying at home to lessen the spread of this virus? Well, first and foremost…seek God’s face daily. See what he wants to teach you and show you during this time of crisis. Ask him how you might still make a difference even from your home. Spend time praying and reading God’s Word. Memorize scriptures that bring peace, faith, and clarity to your heart. We also need to spend time praying for our nurses, doctors, and others who are on the front lines dealing with this pandemic. Pray for those who work in our grocery stores, pharmacies, police departments, fire departments, etc. who are working to ensure that our basic needs can still be met. Find virtual ways to say, “Thank you” to them for their commitment to the cause. Pick up the phone and/or get online and connect with your friends and family. Pray for and with one another. Also, in the same ways, reach out and connect with those who are hurting and need encouragement. Especially take the time to call our elderly loved ones who are feeling extra lonely during this time. Get the kids involved by allow them to sing to them over the phone. If you are on social media, use it to share Jesus and encourage others. Let God use YOU to share His Word and His LOVE with others!
More Ideas: Consider making a loose daily schedule for productivity; read books; watch or listen to sermons; watch family/Christian movies; play games; listen to music; talk to your family; learn a new skill or craft; communicate through email, texts, phone calls, etc.
If you have any other ideas, PLEASE feel free to post them below. We must be creative, but we CAN do it! Phil. 4:13 assures us that, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. God Bless and Stay Safe!
